I have an Athlon 64 system and currently have 2 sticks of 512 each, I'm thinking about adding another 2 sticks of 512 each. However I heard from somewhere that on an Athlon 64 system if you have 4 sticks of RAM then you'll suffer a performance loss, in which you'll lose the FSB speed from 400 to 333. Is this true? cuz if it is then I'll wait to get 2 sticks of 1GB then.
Umm, maybe I forgot to tell you, the external drive that I'm using right now, the WD1600JD, was my old internal drive, I bought it in March 2005 and I used it as my primary HDD, so yes, by itself it works.
no I've put it internally and it got the same problem, so there is nothing wrong with my enclosure, someone mentioned it might be a SATA and SATA II conflict.
No there is no quota limit, because I have transfered 5.47GB of files once and it worked. Also, if I waited long enough during the transfer of the 5GB file I was talking about, I'll eventually get the Delayed Write Failed error.
Also, I was trying to extract some zip files, around 700MB, from the external drive to the external drive, and I got a CRC Error at the end of the extraction process, but if I did it from the internal drive to the external everything was fine, I still haven't found the core to the problem *pulling hair out*.
Things just keep getting stranger, I tried to transfer 3 folders 5.47GB of files from my internal to my external and it worked. So I figured that it has nothing to do with the 5GB thing, however I also know that there is nothing wrong with the original 5GB that I was trying to transfer because I copied it to another location and it also worked. I'm totally confused now, don't know what to do.
I doubt it's a motherboard limitation, and I have already contacted Western Digital, I'm waiting for a response. Also someone pointed out that it might be caused by the virtual memory being filled up before the transfer is completed, I guess I'll try to expand the virtual memory a bit and see what happens.
I have just discovered that it is actually an drive problem, I connected the drive back into the case as an internal drive and same thing happened, now I'm really confused.
The cables are tightly pluged, and it's USB2 which my mobo supports. The funny thing is, when I tried to transfer files that are smaller (2-3GB), everything works fine.
I just bought an AMS Venus DS3 SATA-USB enclosure and put my WD1600JD in it as an external HDD, and when I'm transfering large files like 5GB, the transfer process would stop near the end, my PC did not freeze however, but the transfer process just stuck there. I really need help on this one and this is kinda urgent too.
