I have an Athlon 64 system and currently have 2 sticks of 512 each, I'm thinking about adding another 2 sticks of 512 each. However I heard from somewhere that on an Athlon 64 system if you have 4 sticks of RAM then you'll suffer a performance loss, in which you'll lose the FSB speed from 400 to 333. Is this true? cuz if it is then I'll wait to get 2 sticks of 1GB then.
Performance RAM usually gives better overclocking potential than generic RAM. For example, OCZ VX or Mushkin RedLine with a DFI LanParty UT nF4-Ultra D will overclock to far heights, because the DFI board supports up to 3.8v for memory.

Yes, I will agree that expensive RAM will overclock better. However with an A64 using a divider does not hurt performance. I just don't see the point in buying expensive RAM. It seems like a waste of money to me. The performance difference would be small (depending on the task, of course) and the money can be better spent on other things or even more RAM. Look at the Mushkin Redline since you mentioned it. If I could choose between 1GB of Mushkin Redline and 2Gb of Value RAM, I would choose the Value RAM. The extra RAM would be much more beneficial.
If you want to push your system to its limits as much as possible, then buy expensive RAM. I'll stick with value RAM and using a divider.
