With the London Games Festival now a distant memory, it's time to look north, to Nottingham, the venue for GameCity, 'a new annual festival of interactive entertainment that isn’t just for gamers', which runs from October 25-29.
The concept, its organisers continue, 'is to have a videogames festival in the same way that we have other kinds of art festivals – in multiple venues for different kinds of audiences at different times of the day. We’re trying to find out what a videogames festival could be'.
And that, if the festival's schedule delivers on what it promises, will be a dazzlingly diverse range of attractions, serving up a heady brew of talks, hands-on sessions, gaming challenges and even musical performances.
On paper, highlights look to include a presentation from charismatic Oddworld Inhabitants chief Lorne Lanning, the interactive GameCity lab, and a pub quiz featuring 'lovely' prizes followed by game-inspired music.
Playing a significant part in the proceedings will be Nottingham-based Free Radical Design, whose Rob Yescombe, the writer behind the developer's upcoming HAZE, will be presenting a session entitled 'How To Write Games'. We asked him about FRD's involvement, and his wider expectations for the festival...
I would have hoped to go to E3 in the future but they have reduced the size of it... unless you work for a top games publication.. or Site Like iVirtua!
