Why are they selling them at a loss?

Many people who will buy this console are \"Average Joes\" who will play a few games every now and again, and want those games to be a high quality experience. Since it is not something they will use much, those people will not be prepared to spend an awful lot of money on the consoles. Therefore, Microsoft have sold the consoles at a loss in hope that the lower price will increase sales, which increases demand for games, peripherals and live subscriptions for the Xbox 360 - which is where they intend to make their money.

Playstation 3 is going to be soo expensive... the \"next generation console\" war was over when Sony decided to go with the Cell processor. Dumbest business decision.... EVAR.

The Cell processor is AMAZING. It is said that it can outperform just about any desktop processor available right now.

I've never had an Xbox, and I don't plan to buy a 360.

The fact that I laugh in the face of M$ has nothing to with it though.

My computers[s] are and will always be top notch entertainment for me.  Not only do you have a viable plethora of games available and more made every single day, they're not that expensive.

This is how I view a console machine:  I turn it on, play my game for however long I feel like playing, ultimately get bored/beat it, then I turn the console off.

With my computers:I play games, get bored/beat it, close the game, read some news, do some graphic work, listen to some music, read/post on forums, play online and generally do whatever I want. The functionality is endless.  I don't care what kind of new hip proc a console has, in the end, it will be turned off.

Besides, I can't fold on a console.  In the future? maybe, but not right now :)

For the money, it's a computer for the win. Hands down.

Exactly! This is how I feel about my PS2 lately. I've beaten the 10 games I have....now I have nothing left to do.

PC graphics are still equivalent to or greater than console graphics.

Not for $400 they aren't. I imagine you could build a Sempron or Celeron D powered PC with an entry-level graphics card (6600 GT or X800 GT) for $400, and that PC wouldn't come close to touching the graphical capabilities of the Xbox360.

Anandtech took apart both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and has done extensive research on both. The Xbox 360 has a more powerful processor than any current day PC has, and it's graphics processor was estimated to have the graphics punch of a 24-pipeline R480-series graphics chip (X800 XL).

The Xbox 360 is a far better gaming machine than all but the post-$1,000 PC with SLI... or the post-$1,000 PC with one 7800 GTX or X1800 XT. I hate SLI. Irregardless, I find that the Xbox 360 will retain this gaming supremacy... probably... for the better part of a year. After that, PC's will once again trump Xbox 360's as being child's play.

also your going to need a 1080i compatble t.v. to play it with its full graphics and i was just looking at some today and they were around 1,000-1,600 as much as an sli system.
