Admittedly there are a lot of bad staff in these stores, but what do you expect? It's hardly prestige job for your average well educated gamer.
These guys don't sell whats good, they sell what has the highest profit margins: that's what they are trained to do.
Incidently I get on well with the guys in my local Gamestation, but as far as I'm concerned, Game staff are there to sell and to ask for an opinion from those guys is akin to having 'sell me something over-priced' tattoo'ed on your forehead
think they are told that they have to recommend the latest "Casual" game over games like, say, Drakengard II or Grandia III, which are deemed more "Specialist"
Game shop staff are appalling. They would sell you a full priced game which is crap and have you bring it back within 10 days, rather than sell you a game that you actually would want to keep hold of forever, but which may be cheaper. They also like to confuse he "Non-educated", such as parents and grandparents.
What really gets my goat up is how these stores seem to employ monkeies who know nothing about the products that they are selling, having perhaps just one or two "Uber-geeks" who are called upon to give advice about confusing things such as PSP firmware versions Etc. The rest are simply there to take your cash and shove it in their tills, and have absolutely no idea about what genre certain games are.
the guys who really know what they are talking about are all gonna be customers. or perhaps owners. I tend to frequent smaller stores which are owned by gamers. Discounts tend to be alot bigger, and staff are alot friendlier and knowledgeable. on top of that, i get free instant advice on what games are better.
