Fastest Commerical HDD? in Hardware, Internet, Networking, Comms and Security
Depends upon how you set up the test

If the file are bigger than 16mb, but smaller than 32mb then Maxtor's would win hands down

Now if the files are HUGE the superior sustained transfer rate of the 10K drives would prevail

I really don't know which would come out better in small files, yes, that would be the test

Fastest Commerical HDD? in Hardware, Internet, Networking, Comms and Security
Yo' Josh, now the question is how would (2) 16mb cache Maxtor's in RAID0 fair against a (2) of Raptor's in RAID0

If the Maxtor's even come close I think it would be a victory for the Maxtor (virtue of it's capacity)

You know the Nero drive utility that measues drive, or array speed, well it does (2) tests 1) large files, & 2) small files

Is Maxtor's New HD's the Current Performance King? in Hardware, Internet, Networking, Comms and Security
You know Maxtor has a Utility where you can set the performance level (& noise level) of you HDD in command prompt

Maxtor ships all their drives set for highest performance, you can change it, you have a choice of 3 levels

It is called AMSET ( acoustic management utility

Fastest Commerical HDD? in Hardware, Internet, Networking, Comms and Security
They (reviewers) say that the 74GB is faster, but some say that the ncq advantage of the 74GB is miniscule

The WD site gives them identical specs (except the exclusion of ncq on the 36GB)

Probably the biggest advantage of the 74GB is the larger OD (outside diameter) w/ CAV (constant angular velocity) gives it the edge as you fill your HDD

Just installed my small Raptor

d**n all that argument about minor advantages between different cpu's, & different gfx cards, my new Raptor is twice as fast as my old  IDE Diamond Max Plus 9

It is like night and day LOL

Whheeeeeeeeeeeeee!

ps. large cache is good for lots of small files (OS)

High ratational speeds are good for low CD, & DVD burning times, also loading windows, & backups

IMHO

To: SuperXP

I just found out from the Western Digital website that the 74GB 10K raptor does have ncq, the 36GB does not

I just ordered a single 36GB Raptor from newegg $108USD
