Some questions for you KoolDrew.

You said earlier that you would recommend having 1 partition for OS and another for storage such as games, MP3, etc.?

Quote:
It is best to have as small amount of partitions as possible. I recommend having one partition for OS and Apps and another for storage. This will keep them seperated so if you reformat you can just reformat the first partition and still have all your MP3's, pr0n etc.

Yet, in your last post, you state:

Quote:
You shouldn't have a separate partition for programs. This will increase your average seeking distance, thus decreasing performance.

What should we follow? O_o

In both quotes I said the same thing. In the second, I said you shouldn't have programs on a seperate partition. I said the same in the first one...

Say What?

I agree. What I recommend is that you do a complete Format & a fresh Instal of your OS every 3 to 6 months.  :D

I misunderstood you a bit. When you say apps, that means programs, correct?

We know that, but I usually find that after 6-9 months of one reformat, my PC tends to get slow and laggy with junk files here and there, no matter how much cleaning I do. So, reformat is what I do. But, it is a BIG pain...

It shouldn't. Are you sure you are not getting spyware?

No, but I feel it is most responsive overall if you reformat every 6-9 months.

You delete files you do not need and use add/remove programs. I do not think it is best to reformat your hard drive every 6-9 months. You do not need to if you computer is running slow make sure. It does not have adware, spyware, virus, junk on your computer. Clean out your trash-can,cache. Remove processes you do not need and remove programs you do not need.

-----------------------------------------

I do not think it will make windows faster but slower possible.
