I personally think that Zone Alarm is the best firewall, and Kaspersky is the best Anti-virus. But thats just me. :)

Being the cheap bastard I am I use the Zone Alarm firewall (the free version) and AVG free. Both have served me quite well.

Oh, and to refrase my last post... There is no \"best\" anything. Everything has its own good sides, and it's bad sides. So as some people say, pick carefully.

At the host-level an outbound filtering software firewall (Zonealarm) gives you nothing, but a false sense of security. I use the SP2 firewall + Kaspersky.

How about Sygate Personal Firewall? I use if for Windows XP Pro SP2 32-Bit & a hardware firewall & Tiny Personal Firewall 64 for Windows XP Pro 64-Bit Edition. They seem to work without any prob's. ;)

I also use Sygate. It actually detected a hack into my system, while the SP2 firewall did not. That is why I use both.

Outbound filtering firewalls offer no security advantages at the host level over the SP2 firewall.

I have almost always used zonealarm, and it's never really failed me.. unlike kapersky and sygate. I also use AVG, which is relatively good.. not perfect, but then again no virus scanner is. I used avast and even had a legal license for norton, but I went back to AVG.

I know that, but I'd still rather use a seperate firewall than the SP2 one.

Why? It does not help security at all.

Personally, I use Kerio Personal Firewall, Windows Firewall, and Norton Antivirus. Not saying it's the best; just what I use. :)

The ZoneAlarm firewall has a good reputation, it's what I used with SP1 and its never let me down so I choose to use it over the SP2 firewall.
