It is great, but what do you think of Opera? www.opera.com
What Firefox extensions do you use? I like weather, live IP, Developer toolbar, a proxy one and a temporary inbox one All useful stuff Search the firefox mods for more on them though.
I do like firefox for some of its ease of use like typing some thing in the address bar and it will either search on default search engine or do an im feeling lucky intelligent thing. Pretty cool, but Opera is just faster sometimes, so after Firefox crashes or when Im in a game/running laods of apps and I want to check something I tend to use Opera.
Dynasty; has Firefox ever crashed on you? At leats it recovers liek Opera but opera really does seem alot faster to load up!
also i had repeated accounts of losing all my data as well.
not like my passwords that i store into firefox but like my bookmarks were all deleated :/
i was pretty pissed about that.
however i still use it... iono y =P
anyway my extensions that i use are flashgot plugin, fasterfox, video dler, google web accelerator, answers, clipmarks, cooliris, fireftp, foxytunes and other stuff.
FF hasnt crashed on me as such it just bleh lol. and lately its been using more cpu usage than IE7 even when there doing the same thing >.> FF is dying noooo
I use firefox without any extensions personally, and on the whole it's probably my faveourite browser. It's faster than I.E. and the only thing that bugs me is its inability to display some features that I.E. can, such as some modified cursors.
I've used IE6, IE7, several versions of Firefox, and Opera. I can crash them all, and all have their own drawbacks, and depending on options/personal settings and plugins used any could load the fastest or slowest. I finally settled on Opera after being a long term IE6 user, even though it took the most work getting used to. I've found that it actually works with more websites than IE7 or firefox can, even if I still run across some sites that only work with IE.
My apologies if it was posted here previously, but this happens to be a great article comparing browsers for any of the top three flavors of Operating Systems. It's to bad it's discontinued now with Vista here, but it's still an interesting read. Of course since I'm biased towards Opera, I'm not exactly bias free in posting this. http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.html#testresults
I could never really get to liking Firefox, as I always needed to use plug-ins for it. Once I started using plug-ins the rock solid stability would turn into wet newspaper, at least unti l I'd spend more time than I'd like carefully testing out and installing various versions of every plug-in until I had a stable browser. Then FireFox would issue a new version that'd break half of my plug-ins, and the cycle would repeat. This was my biggest beef with FireFox, and IE would often just crash of it's own accord so this is what pushed me back to Opera. Even on the rare occasion Opera 9 crashes, I can restart it with all of my windows/tabs in place, with only what I'd been typing in the open window having been lost. Even when Opera goes into one of it's infamous 100% CPU usage cycles the program is still responsive and functional, and I can save my work and exit without an issue which to date neither FireFox nor any version of IE can offer as far as I know.
FireFox saves passwords and they're something you can easily access given the right motivation. Well you can also access the passwords in plain text. Someone broke into my Windows Server here and took some passwords out of FireFox and proceeded to buy some server storage ($225 US) and mess up a forum I administer. I know I should have known better and password protected that section of FireFox but with all of the advertising FireFox gets a LOT of people will use this feature of FireFox and not secure the passwords portion and then....bam...they have their accounts compromised.
I agree Opera is better. But Google Browser Sync, Adblock and Portable Firefox makes it my choice. I can use the same browser anywhere I go; and with Google Browser Sync I don't have to bother sticking my MP3 player on my home PC. Everything is sync instantly.
One interesting thing I didn't know until trying to implement it on a small Office is that Firefox is not that easy to use. +1 for Microsoft.
I think that while Firefox is not one of the most used, most flaws are not exploited by no one. This simply doesn't worth it. And yes, I feel much safer with Firefox than with Internet Explorer.
I switch between FF and Safari. I've used Opera, and it's okay, but I just don't feel it suits me. Don't know why. I use Safari for about 90% of my surfing, but I do like the add-ons with FF. And IE is just as vulnerable as FF -- the day a browser is 100% bulletproof will be a happy day for Web surfers everywhere.
While the Mac OS X build of Firefox is an absolutely dreadful piece of software that generates memory leaks larger than a space station, the *ni/ux and Windows builds of Firefox are very good, with little instances of crashing for me.
As a Macintosh user, I must say I do not like exactly Firefox, but I feel the need to refute some of these "myths."
"Firefox has lower System Requirements than Internet Explorer" While this myth is practically false, there is good reasoning behind this. When the writer of this did the comparison between Firefox and Explorer, he used IE 6. IE 6 is basically a slim browser for someone who only needs the internet for minor uses, while Firefox contains many different features from IE that make it a non-slim browser.
"Firefox's Memory Leak is a Bug" ...so that's Mozilla's plan of attack? Create a memory leak intended to slow down a user's computer and pass it off as a bug? Not a very good plan of attack to me, and it doesn't really look that well anywhoo, because it is false.
"Firefox passes the Acid2 Test" This is a true myth. Firefox 2 passes the Acid2 test.
"Firefox is not a religion." Um... the book of Mozilla is simply a joke.
"Firefox is the Fastest Web Browser" While Firefox isn't the fastest web browser, neither is Opera... which I've clocked to be even slower than Internet Explorer 6! The website explaining myths also needs to understand that the "fastest" browser would not behave such under different operating systems - if a browser named SoFast ran the fastest under Windows, it may behave poorly when optimized for a *nix system.
That's all I'll do for now, but that should be enough to prove that Firefox is not the worst browser to use for an operating system.
