ummm... well im having some major heat problems with my dell dimension 4600C (note that i did not choose such a small case).  *grabs measuring tape*.  Let me just start by saying: \"Its a retarded 3\"W, 12\"H, 12\"L  space saving design running on one tiny 70mm fan with a 3.4Ghz P4 processor\".  I know the P4 makes alot of heat.  Could my heat troubles be caused by the thin design?

Ps- im building my first computer, so ill be hanging around this forum for awile asking for suggestions. :)

How have you come to the conclusion you have \"major heat problems?\" Are there any problems with the computer as a result? What exactly are the temps?

Motherboard Monitor is a decent application for keeping an eye on internal temps.  There are a slew of others as well though.

As Drew said, what exactly is going on that is making you think that you have a heat problem?

55C (131F) is not actually an extremely high temperature. Unless you are actually experiencing problems, I would not worry about it.

yeah but 55C is only on IDOL.  I havent used speedfan while gaming yet, but i guess the temp would be 70C since in heavy gaming the temp ususally rises 15c during gaming.

yeah thats about regular temperature. You'll know if it is overheating if it starts shutting itself down for safety. Or horribly glitching.

Is that abient case temp, or CPU temp?
If it's the case temp, you've got a problem.  If it's the cpu, I would only be slighty concerned.
