Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said that the Nintendo Wii is not a so-called next-generation console. Iwata said: "Nintendo is not working on a next-generation console. 'Next-generation' implies that the console is an extension of previous installments. We believe that extending our current line will not lead to larger markets, and could possibly even lead to smaller markets."
Though many game pundits (CarnageX ) have called the face off between the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii the "next-generation console war," one of gaming's leading lights does not see the conflict in such terms.

I belive that it is still next gen. Iwata said that "next gen" means an extension of the previous installment...well with the virtual console it is next gen. It is extending to us the ability to play the previous installments and to experaince them in a whole new way. So of course Nintendo is working on a next gen console but as for a war I don't see it that way.
I see it as devolpers are being pushed to make better and better things. Without competition we wouldn't have progressed as far as we have now. Look at what everyones coming up with. A next gen DVD player and a next gen gaming machine in one. A whole new way to look and feel the game one more step to complete immersion into a game. Of course the ability to actully play PC games and console games all in the same box. Competition has brought out the best in the gaming industry let the fight go on it beings with it awesomeness.
I think it's still next gen too, with the next generation technologies and design, but it will be cheap, and set apart from the 360 and PS3 I think; he was speaking in metaphorical terms; not to be taken too literally.
Competition has definatly meant better quality, and price wars to some extent (when one company reduces prices, the competitior simetimes does)
In other topics I have talked about more intergration and compatability; and with Microsoft in the scene, they are definatly pushing things. If it was still Sony and Nintendo, (and maybe even Sega), I dont think it would be the same, as Microsoft's visions are totally different, and they have different "Mission Statements".

Well when it comes to intergration and compatability Sony this way around has that in the bag. Yes the 360 can become a computer if you like (very weak computer but a computer non the less) but the PS3 is going to be. A sling box, a DVR, a Blue Ray player, and a high powered gaming console. Im not singing the praises of Sony here Im just admitting they have ALOT of intergration in there system. I on the other hand enjoy Intergration but in the very end Im just buying a gaming console. I want to be able to play GAMES. Yes I want the new Nintendo to play DVD's but not be a DVR or a sling box. Thats just too much. I dont know I guess it all comes down to what your oppion or prefrence is in choosing what console you want this year. Personaly I want the Wii NO DOUTE and then a 360 for Halo 3, Gears of War, and Too Human. Sony just doesn't have enuph good games to make me want to buy a $600 system.
Thats a great way of looking at it; if you like the Nintendo's games, then the Wii is for you, I think the PS3 games are a little "mainstream" for me.
Ok Im gonna make a topic about this and I want you to tell me what you think about it on that topic ok. Im gonna give a link to the site here but Im gonna post all the info on the actual topic dude if you like Nintendo then your in for a GIANT surprise trust me Im pissed I cant have it now.
I saw your other post; Is it justa wishlist? Seems a very big rumour or leak if not.
