What's the surprise about Microsoft launching a Black XBox?
Nowadays there are people who just buys videogames as a hobby (check Blue Dragon's hype on Japan. I'd NEVER buy a videogame just because of a single game!) . Unfortunately, this is far from reality here in Brazil...
If you have Windows XP Home, the only way is trough Registry Settings:
Go to Start/Run
Run regedit
Search for:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
(if you can't find it, it's safe to create this entry)
There, you'll find two registry entries: RebootRelaunchTimeoutEnabled and RebootRelaunchTimeout.
RebootRelaunchTimeoutEnabled can be 1 or 0. 1 means enabled, 0 disabled.
RebootRelaunchTimeout is how long will it show. Right now, I'm as a user and can't create it to test it. Find out for yourselves.
Do you consider copyright laws (software or music, movies, etc.) when using computers at home?
As a System Administrator, I disencourage and do not allow any kind of mp3s or any other software specified on the company policy.
But at home, there's no System Administrator. So, do you find immoral downloading music or software you were not intended to?
I find myself running away from this kind of stuff. Almost all the programs I use are open-source/freeware. No need to buy expensive software nor to crack them.
But when it comes to music... Emule's full of goods and hard-to-find stuff.
So, do you consider copyright laws when at home? I'd like to know about it.
I agree Opera is better. But Google Browser Sync, Adblock and Portable Firefox makes it my choice. I can use the same browser anywhere I go; and with Google Browser Sync I don't have to bother sticking my MP3 player on my home PC. Everything is sync instantly.
One interesting thing I didn't know until trying to implement it on a small Office is that Firefox is not that easy to use. +1 for Microsoft.
I think that while Firefox is not one of the most used, most flaws are not exploited by no one. This simply doesn't worth it. And yes, I feel much safer with Firefox than with Internet Explorer.
Something defnetly missing on Apple platforms are games.
If there's some game developing on games (which probably went much easier with Intel proccessors), Apple may win more marketing share. Video/Audio authoring, MP3 players, Vectoring, Phones and soon Games. What's next?
Here on Brazil you can already use your mobile phone as your credit card.
Your credit card is linked to your mobile number. You give your cell phone number and shortly you receive a SMS message with a confirmation number. If informed correctly, the transaction is accomplished.
I don't like this RFID hype... It just looks too unsecure.
As far as I know, keys are often reset (something like 3 months). So, if you activate a key and say, 6 months later the machine is sold and the user tries to activate it. It'll work. If it doesn't, your activation code WILL work with WGA. Microsoft bans only 1000+ used keys.
I didn't test it on VIsta, but I can assure XP works this way.
I wonder if it's hard to make addiional service packs for XP like 98SE Revolution's pack for 98SE. This can improve greatly Windows XP lifetime.
Will try to install them as soon as I get home...
I personally like .docx not be able to run macros. It's much more secure as you KNOW wheter you're opening a potential threat to your computer.
XML also makes easier to write programs to manage Office documents.
Zune will only be a fair product if someone crack its music sharing service.
Be able to wireless transfer music on the streets (even if it's speed is low) is something really great. But if someone crack iPhone too, a GSM phone with mp3 and Bluetooth is much better than only Zune's music sharing service...
Not to even mention iPod's usability!
Microsoft doesn't seem to monitor its partners policies. There was once a website on msn.com about recipes that was written in PHP. Linux routers being used by Microsoft. If they don't even know others don't use their products, they probably can't tell anything about viruses.
