In the future, modern browsers will start to ignore attributes of certain elements (e.g. tables) that may have been relied upon for layout.. so at some point the "old" websites relying on tables will start to break.
The DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) states that your business premises must be accessible to disabled people. This includes your website, and if you have used tables for layout then there is a good chance it is not accessible for someone with a screen reader, for example (as previously stated by OwenKL). I don't know of a case where this has gone to court but I do expect something controversial to happen, so if your a business or developing for a business keep this in mind.
And css box layouts is the modern cutting edge way to do things, so if your a self respecting geek get on board!
I don't use HMV much but I have noticed that they are marketing quite aggresively online.
If I remember correctly, you can interface your website with HMV in a similar way to Amazon so you can generate decent referrals... maybe this has helped push their sales.
I think that because I use computers all the time for work, I associate better with a console for gaming. When I am gaming on a PC I will quite often multitask or feel the need to multitask and that can involve talking to clients etc. - e.g. playing Champ Manager I will chat on MSN between loading.
With a console it is a complete breakaway - there are no distractions, no links with work or otherwise. I guess that if I didn't spend all day coding on my PC I would probably look at it more for gaming.
That said I do play a few PC games - Second Life, Champ Manager and Civilization mainly.
Yeh I am starting to think it is a little bit pointless, as you can't redeem your points for anything more than a mobile wallpaper... but hopefully they will get some stuff in soon.
My experience is that Gamestation is slightly better than Game. I like that they have retro stuff, magazines and the little toys (Mario Kart Radio Controlled!).
But generally I am not a big fan of any games shops - if you are a savvy gamer of any kind you will shop around online, pick it up second hand on eBay etc.
Saying that tho a local games store helped me out recently by selling me a Nintendo Wii... so maybe they aren't too bad
If you are looking for an obscure IT related question then best place to ask is experts exchange. http://www.experts-exchange.com/
If you think you can offer something to the community then you can earn points and rewards by answering questions here.
There points system is a little complicated to get used to at the start but if you stick with it the site is very useful. You can also "cheat" by purchasing points, but if you know anything about computers then you can easily avoid having to do this.
My name is Carey and I was introduced to this forum by Sam. I think he found me on the edge forum or similar.
I have to admit that I didn't think the site would come to much but I am really impressed by this forum and iVirtua as a whole - nice images and look for the main site (although the accesibility and visibilty to search engines could do with improvement!). There seems to be plenty of activity and intelligent conversation in these forums, which is definetely lacking on other sites!
I work in the Web Development industry creating professional websites, systems, search engine optimisation etc etc. so if there is anything I can help with give me a shout.
I will look forward to checking out your posts and speak to you soon!
