no I've put it internally and it got the same problem, so there is nothing wrong with my enclosure, someone mentioned it might be a SATA and SATA II conflict.
It really shouldn't be a problem with the enclosure, because it does the same thing internally. It very well could be a SATA and SATA II problem. Is both the mobo and the drive the same?
Umm, maybe I forgot to tell you, the external drive that I'm using right now, the WD1600JD, was my old internal drive, I bought it in March 2005 and I used it as my primary HDD, so yes, by itself it works.

If it works by itself, I do not see how it is the drive's problem.
