no I've put it internally and it got the same problem, so there is nothing wrong with my enclosure, someone mentioned it might be a SATA and SATA II conflict.

Try another drive in the enclosure to see if it is actually the enclosure causing the problem.

It really shouldn't be a problem with the enclosure, because it does the same thing internally.
It very well could be a SATA and SATA II problem.  Is both the mobo and the drive the same?

My mobo is Gigabyte K8N Ultra-9 which supports both SATA and SATA II, what do you mean if my mobo and my drive are the same?

Petrel, take your drive out and set it up by itself, directly connecting to the motherboard with SATA cables. See if that works.

Umm, maybe I forgot to tell you, the external drive that I'm using right now, the WD1600JD, was my old internal drive, I bought it in March 2005 and I used it as my primary HDD, so yes, by itself it works.

If it works by itself, I do not see how it is the drive's problem.

I meant if they were the same type of SATA (SATA or SATA II).  But, since your board supports both, that shouldn't be the problem.
